The “get-rich-quick” ad has been a standard fixture in our print advertising literature for a long time now. Almost everyone has come across one of them at some point or another and usually, our reaction is the same; we shake our heads and feel sorry for whoever could have fallen for something like that. You might be thinking the same thing as you read this; that it is a prelude to a scam, but read on; you will be pleasantly surprised to find that it isn’t. If we task ourselves to clearly recall each time we encountered one of these ads, we would remember that what we had the problem with, was the advertisement of an idea to “get-rich-quick” and the doubt that came to the surface was of the transaction being proposed. If we dig deep we will remember that very few people will disagree with the fact that sudden success with dramatic income increases do occur and do so with some regularity. Success is not uncommon, neither is sudden and BIG success. There are lots of great ideas and people ready to act on them. All of us have heard of someone who, against all opinion or odds was “doing very well”, many of us actually know someone like that, so what is it about those ads that makes us cringe? If we think about it, the reason is usually because something as wondrous as success and wealth was presented so informally or casually and that it was pitched to everyone. We all know that success isn’t for “everyone”, so the very idea of a “foolproof” plan for success would be something to be suspicious of. We also respect those who achieve success very highly and that respect fuels the reaction. The point is that once we move past the unpleasant feeling that these ads leave us with, short-term success and even “getting rich quick” do occur. Many times, when we encounter someone who has earned success, we justify it as “luck”: “Have you heard? Jack is doing so well! That lucky son of a gun!” Luck has very little to do with it, in fact those who experience “luck” and win a lotto jackpot, usually squander it within a short time.
The fact is that it takes a certain way of thinking to set an idea into motion. It takes a particular type of person to actually “DO” something and not just understand how it is done. It’s not a matter of how good the idea is - it’s all about how a person understands the way an idea or concept works. Think of it as a “human mechanism” or more specifically; a human dynamic mechanism.
